Job Title: Horticulture Intern
Classification: Nonexempt | Part-time | 16 hours per week
Pay Rate: $17/hour
Reports to: Deputy Director of Horticulture
Brooklyn Bridge Park (BBP) is looking to hire dedicated Horticulture Interns who are passionate about public horticulture and looking to obtain hands-on experience in the field. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Horticulture, the Horticulture Interns will work alongside the Horticulture Staff and assist with the landscape management of the park. The Horticulture Interns will commit to 2 days a week of work, over 11 weeks from July to September. Workdays are Wednesday and Thursday from 7AM – 3:30PM.
This internship is designed to prepare participants for seasonal and full-time employment opportunities within New York City's public horticulture industry.
Primary Responsibilities:
Acquire skills in native plant identification, invasive species management, hydrology, turf maintenance, botany, propagation, woody plant-care, soil stabilization, planting and establishment practices, irrigation repairs, and garden editing.
Perform other duties associated with ecological horticulture.

Ability to perform heavy, physical labor daily in all weather conditions

Brooklyn Bridge Park, one of the largest and most significant public projects to be built in New York City in a generation, has transformed a once dilapidated industrial waterfront into a vibrant and thriving 85-acre civic landscape. The Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation (BBP) develops, improves, maintains, and fully operates the Park as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit entity, controlled by the City of New York. BBP is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Park, including horticulture, maintenance, capital planning and construction, event permitting, and concession oversight.
