Job Title: Turf and Irrigation Assistant
Classification: Full-time, temporary, non-exempt
Pay Rate: $22 per hour
Reports to: Director of Horticulture
Brooklyn Bridge Park (BBP) is looking to hire a Seasonal Turf and Irrigation Assistant who will support the upkeep of park landscapes and green spaces with a primary focus on turf health and irrigation systems. This role assists with daily turf maintenance tasks, operation and basic repair of irrigation systems, and ensuring park areas remain clean, safe, attractive, and functional for public use. Reporting to the Director of Horticulture, the role contributes to the high standards of landscape quality expected at a premier urban waterfront park.
Primary Responsibilities:
Perform daily turf maintenance including push mowing and string trimming
Hand pull broadleaf invasive plants on lawns
Assist with daily lawn closures and reopening
Perform detail-oriented tasks such filling holes in lawns, hand seeding, watering and mulching along lawn trees
Assist in parkwide leaf clean-up
Maintain and clean turf equipment
Assist in drip and sprinkler irrigation repair
Assist in troubleshooting of irrigation systems failures
Assist in irrigation flagging for aerification and slice seeding operations
Assist in other horticulture operational tasks as needed such as event preparation
Assist in data tracking of maintenance programs on digital software
Qualifications:
Passionate about a career in public horticulture
Hardworking, self-motivated and dedicated to details
Ability to perform heavy, physical labor daily in all weather conditions
